Why should I have a Coronary CTA?
A Coronary CTA is the newest technology in heart imaging. It is the first technology to allow a three-dimensional view of the heart. Coronary CTA is like having a Heart Catheterization procedure without having the tube inserted into the arteries of your heart. Even better, a Coronary CTA can demonstrate the plaque developing in the walls of the blood vessels before it shows up on a traditional Heart Catheterization test.

What if the scan shows that I have heart disease and need treatment?
If it does, you'll be glad you found out about your condition early. We'll work with your physician to see that you get the right kind of follow-up care. Today there are many treatments available to help people cope with heart disease.
Is there anyone who should not have this test?
Yes! Anyone who is having Unstable(worsening) Angina or Acute Chest Pain should be immediately evaluated in the Emergency Department. You may be having an Acute Coronary Syndrome or Heart Attack. In the event of an Acute Corornary Syndrome, this is best evaluated and treated by a traditional Cardiac Catherization procedure. These treatments are most effective immediately.
What if I passed a recent echocardiogram or stress test?
Both of these tests will only detect coronary artery disease after a significant amount of the artery is blocked. Passing such a test does not mean that you are free of heart disease; it only means that it has not become very advanced. The Coronary CTA detects plaque in the arteries years earlier.
