More headroom. More legroom. More elbowroom; Kansas City Imaging Center helps ease nerves for Claustrophobic patients. If you suffer from claustrophobia, a tube is the last place you want to be. For some patients, that’s exactly how it feels when they are asked to lay still for their MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan. In traditional machines, a patient can spend up to an hour inside the machine, which can sometimes lead to severe anxiety.
Open MRI or low-field scanners (0.25 to 0.5 Tesla magnets) are one option for claustrophobic or large patients, but they often lack adequate image quality for physicians. Now, there is new option! Kansas City imaging Center, LLC is proud to offer Kansas City’s first high-field scanner (1.5 Tesla magnets), which is specifically designed for claustrophobic patients.
The Magnetom Espree scanner is a state-of-the-art MRI machine which offers a level of image quality not possible before in Open MRI. With over two feet inner diameter, it is the shortest 1.5 Tesla magnet in the industry. “Advances in technology now allow us to scan all of our patients in a comfortable environment, without making any compromises in image quality,” says Dr. Michael Parsa, Medical Director at Kansas City Imaging Center, “This is an ideal solution not just for claustrophobic or large patients, but for everybody.”
What does this mean to a patient…it means:
More headroom (No longer will patients feel like they’re nose-to-nose with the magnet).
More legroom (The machine is unrestricted and expansive for short and tall patients).
More elbowroom (Most machines have a weight limit of 400 lbs.. The Espree has a weight limit of 550 lbs.).
Another great benefit is shorter exam times. Most patients can be scanned in half the time (approximately 30 minutes) versus traditional open machines (approximately 60 minutes). Espree’s unique Open Bore design can also accommodate more types of patients (obese, elderly and children). Kansas City Imaging Center is the newest Kansas City Area all Digital Imaging Center. UIC, the largest Radiology group in the Metro Area, has partnered with Providence Hospital to provide the community with quality imaging in a patient friendly environment. Kansas City Imaging Center is proud to provide a 1.5 T MRI, a 40-slice CT, Digital Mammography, Sonography, Bone Density, x-ray and fluoro exams. For more information on KCIC call 913.667.5666.
