New Imaging Center Focuses on Women Services, including Mammography
Early detection of breast cancer is critical, and the most effective way to detect breast cancer is through a regularly scheduled mammogram.
This has become easier for area women with the opening of the Kansas City Imaging Center (KCIC), a partnership between Providence Medical Center and United Imaging Consultants. The new facility is located at 11011 Haskell, Kansas City, Kansas, near the intersection of 110th and Parallel Parkway (just northwest of the intersection of I-435 and I-70), close to Legends, Nebraska Furniture Mart and Cabela’s.
According to Michael Parsa, M.D., a board-certified radiologist and KC Imaging Center medical director, KCIC radiologists specialize in women’s imaging to aid physicians in providing patients with the best care. “Our radiologists are on-site to provide immediate results of screening digital mammograms because we feel the wait for results is too stressful for patients. This allows for any necessary diagnostic scans to be obtained while patients are in the office rather than being called back a second time and provides the referring physician with needed information more quickly to begin any required treatment process more immediately.”
The facility’s full field digital mammography system revolutionizes breast care and helps physicians detect and diagnose breast cancer patients accurately. This technology offers diagnostic advantages in the industry such as superior image quality, enhanced ease of use, and patient comfort. Digital mammography allows for decreased radiation exposure and less anxiety for the patient. Screening mammograms can be read instantly and converted to diagnostic as necessary while the patient is still in the office.
According to Dr. Parsa, advantages of digital mammography include faster exams, more accurate detection of breast cancers, lower radiation dose, and computer-aided detection that obtains a second, computerized reading. Also, computerized mammograms may be archived in various ways, easily retrieved, and copied exactly.
